UPDATE 09/21/2017: The skins have been re-enabled on PC with new lines upon ultimate activation. A fix is still incoming for consoles.
If you’ve unlocked Winged Victory Mercy during the recent Summer Games, or picked up Oni Genji from Heroes of the Storm or crates, you may notice that when you load into a game your precious, beautiful skins are gone. Don’t worry—they haven’t disappeared into the nether, never to be seen again. However, they are temporarily disabled.
Josh Engen, a Community Manager for Blizzard, explained the issue:
Following the release of today’s patch, we discovered an issue affecting two Legendary skins: Oni Genji and Winged Victory Mercy. This bug prevents the heroes’ ultimate voice lines from functioning properly when these skins are equipped.
Due to the impact of this issue, we've temporarily disabled the affected skins and restored the default skin for any players who had Oni or Winged Victory equipped.
We're working to remedy the situation quickly, but the fix will require a follow up patch in the coming days. For PC players, this patch will mostly likely be released this week, but we don’t currently have an ETA for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One patches. We will provide updates as they become available.
Sincere apologies for the inconvenience, and thank you so much for your patience!
Sure, this sounds like a pretty minor bug, but consider that one of the cardinal rules of Overwatch is that if you hear angry Japanese screaming, you run. A Dragonblading Genji with no prior warning is one of the most terrifying things we can imagine. As for Mercy, her new ult gives her a whole lot of firepower, so it’s probably for the best you get a warning on that one, too.
While it’s not a lot of fun to lose out on your treasured cosmetics, don’t panic; the skins aren’t lost permanently. Before you know it you’ll be back on the battlefield wearing the finest garments available.
