NYXL are the Overwatch League Stage 3 champions

The Excelsior are the League’s first back to back champions

The New York Excelsior have become the Overwatch League’s first ever two time and back to back champions with its win in the Stage 3 Finals this past weekend.

NYXL spent most of the Stage 3 group stages in second place despite an extremely strong run of games and only one loss throughout the entire stage. This was thanks in large part to the Excelsior’s Finals opponent, the Boston Uprising, who went on an incredible undefeated run through group stages, which included a 3-2 victory over NYXL in week 2.

During the playoffs, both Boston and New York faced off against Los Angeles teams with the Excelsior taking on the Valiant, while the Uprising faced off against the Gladiators. Both LA teams were unceremoniously swept and Stage 3’s two most impressive teams moved on to the Finals.

In the Finals, the Uprising put up a strong fight, but there was never a doubt that New York was the stronger team. Boston managed to force a tie on the third map, Volskaya Industries, but outside of that tie, the series was all New York, who finished the playoffs with an impressive 3-0 score in both series.
